Moped class 2

A class 2 moped is equipped with a motor between 250 W and 1000 W and can reach a maximum speed of 25 km/h using a throttle, along with pedal assistance. To operate this type of moped, you must be at least 15 years old and hold a driving certificate for class 2 mopeds. However, if you turned 15 before October 2009, no driving certificate is required.

To drive the moped, a helmet is mandatory, as well as at least third-party liability insurance. It is also recommended to obtain partial insurance for theft protection.

The moped should be ridden on bicycle paths unless signage indicates "no mopeds."

Bicycle

A bicycle may have a motor of up to 250 W, and the motor should primarily provide power only through pedaling. Our e-bikes are equipped with a throttle, but this is limited to 5 km/h (walk assist).

The e-bike does not require a driving certificate or special insurance, as it is typically covered under home insurance. However, we still recommend contacting your insurance company to check the specific terms for your situation.

What does ISO 11243:2016 mean?

ISO 11243:2016 is the international standard for bicycle and e-bike rear racks. Certification means the rear rack has undergone extensive testing for strength, stability, and long-term durability under both static and dynamic loads.

The standard ensures that the rear rack can safely support its specified load capacity and perform reliably during everyday use, even on uneven terrain. It also includes requirements for design, mounting, durability, and product information to meet high safety standards.

ISO 11243 also covers rear racks intended for transporting children in compatible rack-mounted child seats. The certification is therefore an important indicator of quality and safety for both everyday transport and family use.

Please note: A certified rear rack does not automatically mean that any child seat can be used. The child seat must also be approved according to the applicable safety standard and be compatible with the specific rear rack.

Sensor

Sensor

The difference between a speed sensor and a torque sensor on an e-bike

A speed sensor detects when you start pedaling and provides motor power based on that. The motor delivers a preset level of assistance regardless of how hard you press on the pedals. This creates a simple and powerful riding experience, often perceived as stronger and more like a moped feel. This means you never have to feel sweaty.

A torque sensor measures how hard you pedal and adjusts the motor power accordingly. The more force you apply, the more assistance you receive. This provides a more natural, responsive, and bicycle-like riding experience.

COC Certified

A COC certificate (Certificate of Conformity) for a class 2 moped is a document that confirms the vehicle meets EU standards and requirements for safety and the environment. The vehicle has been thoroughly quality tested, and each COC certificate is uniquely linked to the frame number of the specific vehicle. This certificate facilitates the registration and insurance of the moped and certifies that it is manufactured according to the technical specifications applicable within the EU.

Insure Your RAWBIKE

If you purchase a RAWBIKE classified as a moped class 2, you are required to have at least third-party liability insurance to use it on public roads. However, we always recommend a comprehensive insurance policy that also covers theft for better protection.

A moped class 2 is defined as a vehicle with a motor stronger than 250 W and equipped with a throttle that can drive up to 25 km/h. Additionally, the vehicle must be COC-certified, which all RAWBIKEs comply with.

It’s wise to compare different insurance companies, as premiums can vary significantly. Factors that affect the premium include your age, gender, where you live, and other individual aspects.

For more information about rules and requirements, you can read more on The Swedish Transport Agency's website here.

Information to provide to the insurance company:

  • Vehicle make and model: RAWBIKE Classic
  • Type of vehicle: Moped class 2/Light Moped
  • COC certificate number (vehicle frame number)
  • Motor power: 750W
  • Max speed: 25km/h
AVS Click System

AVS Click System – Integrated on Rawbike models

The award-winning Atran Velo System (AVS) is an innovative modular system for smooth and secure attachment of baskets, bags, boxes, etc. to your bike. Since 1937, the team at Atran Velo in Falkenberg has been creating high-quality bicycle accessories of the highest standard, and we would argue that the smart AVS is the crown jewel of their entire range.

All it takes is a single motion and a single "click"... you have now attached or detached your AVS accessory from the rear rack – could it be any easier? A smart quick-release with powerful fixation that makes it exemplary to easily click baskets and bags in and out without risking them coming loose while you are cycling.

In short, it’s all about allowing you to easily adapt your bike’s cargo capacity to your changing daily needs. The Atran Velo System is simply designed to simplify your busy everyday life, so you can bring groceries, your laptop, and your lunchbox... regardless of season or weather conditions.
