A Secure Lock for Your E-Bike or Electric Moped
Using a secure and robust lock from Abus is always recommended to protect your Rawbike, e-bike, or electric moped.
We have carefully selected Abus locks that combine high security with convenience, making them easy to bring along on your rides.
For Class 2 Electric Mopeds
If you purchase a Class 2 electric moped, insurance companies require the lock to be moped-rated and approved. We recommend using a moped-rated lock as your primary security and complementing it with an accessory like the Abus Alarmbox. Each product page specifies the vehicle class for which the lock is tested and approved.
For E-Bikes
E-bikes do not require moped-rated locks, but we still recommend using a lock with the highest possible security rating for extra protection, even if it’s not mandated by your insurance company.
How Should I Lock My E-Bike or Electric Moped?
The most important thing is to always secure your vehicle by locking it through the frame and attaching it to a fixed, secure object. If leaving your vehicle for an extended period, such as a full workday, we recommend taking the battery with you to make the vehicle less appealing to thieves.
For additional security, you can complement with an Abus Alarmbox. It provides an effective motion alarm and includes a chain, allowing you to lock your vehicle in two places while benefiting from an active alarm.
U-Lock or Chain Lock – Which Should I Choose?
The choice between a U-lock and a chain lock depends on your preferences:
-
U-Lock:
- Comes with a practical frame mount, making it easy to attach to the frame while riding.
- Easy to handle and produces less noise during use.
- Slightly more limited in terms of locking flexibility around larger objects.
-
Chain Lock:
- Flexible and convenient due to its movable links, making it easier to secure your vehicle to different objects.
- Lacks a frame mount and may produce noise while riding.
- Heavier than a U-lock, which can affect portability.
